About Bravo Zulu
Bravo Zulu is a research project dedicated to the history of the world's warships. We publish daily stories and in-depth articles covering everything from Civil War commerce raiders to Cold War nuclear tests.
The name comes from the NATO signal flag code "BZ", meaning "well done." It's the highest compliment one ship can signal to another.
Each story starts with one fact that makes you stop and read the rest. Swipe through them on the Daily feed, then read the full articles when one grabs you.
How we research a story
Every story starts from the record: ship logs, action reports, court-martial and inquiry transcripts, survivor memoirs, and the collections of naval history archives and museums such as the US Naval History and Heritage Command and the Imperial War Museums. We check names, ranks, dates, tonnage and casualty figures against at least two independent sources, and where sources disagree we say so in the text.
Every article ends with the sources we used, linked where they are online, so you can check our work and keep reading.
Corrections
If you spot an error, email stories@bravozulu.co with the story and a source. We fix confirmed errors in the article itself.
Who is behind Bravo Zulu
Bravo Zulu is published by MOZUMA, a Cyprus-based studio that makes naval history graphic novels and collectibles, including Come On, Texas, a graphic novel about the battleship USS Texas. The stories on this site are free to read and always will be.
